These are usually simple enough.to remove. Most computer cases have screws only on the rear. Remove the screws and lift or slide the case off the frame (reinstall is the opposite of removal). Sometimes removing the case for the first time can be a puzzle. All my computer cases are simple to remove but I've worked on many that must have been designed by the
same people who design armored vehicles for the military. If you have one of those cases,
good luck! Just keep trying but remember in your anger, the hard drive is fragile - hold your temper!

Getting Inside Your Computer
Unplug the Power Cord
Remove the Case Screws

Rear of tower computer. This case uses 6 screws.

If you disconnect these plugs they are easy to reconnect. Everything you remove has a socket made to fit only that connection except the K'board and Mouse and your Speakers. The Mouse goes to the inside and the Keyboard goes to the outside. If you confuse them you haven't damaged anything but you'll have to reverse their positions. On some computers you can follow the colors on the Mouse and K'board socket and plugs. The sound card should have a little symbol made into the computer frame indicating which hole to plug into. You won't destroy anything if you plug into the wrong hole. If the speakers don't work, change holes.
It won't take but a few minutes for you to mark what goes where before you remove the cables; then you'll know how they were.
WARNING: OPEN YOUR COMPUTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. All electronics have differences so all possibilities cannot be communicated in a writing such as this; also you may void warranties by opening a case or attempting repairs yourself: read your warranties first. These connections are typical of many computers - yours may be different. You can make a simple diagram before removing cables. That often saves a lot of time and worry when reassembling.
