Some basic words used in the world of computering

Hardware: The physical components of a computer and it's peripherals (devices that connect to your computer). It's been well said that if you can drop it on your toe, its hardware.
Software: computer programs such as the operating system, word processors, games, utilities .
Drive: an electromechanical device that can write/read (some read only) from physical material such as a disk, tape or other media used for storing computer information.
Driver: a program or instruction (software) that enables a computer to work with a particular device. Every piece of new hardware that you add to your computer will have a driver which you will have to install and/or activate. New hardware should have drivers on a disk, included 
in it's box. Almost any driver for hardware produced in the past few years can be downloaded free from Internet sites like www.driverguide.com/ and many other sites including the manufacturer's web site. Drivers are often upgraded and usually free downloads will be available from the device manufacturer.    
Freeware: software such as games, utility programs, etc that are provided by the author at no cost to the user.
Shareware: software provided to the user usually for a limited time on a Try-Before-You-Buy basis.
